Soils are the basis of a large part of life on Earth. Fire is a global phenomenon. The study of the effects of fires on soils is a fascinating topic. Due to the increased interest in the study of fires and soils, in 2007 there was the idea to organize a Congress that put together all the knowledge about the Fire Effects on Soil Properties. This first meeting was held in Barcelona.

After Barcelona 2007 we’ve held meetings in Marmaris, Turkey (2009), Guimaraes, Portugal (2011), Vilnius, Lithuania (2013), Dublin, Ireland (2015), Skukuza, South Africa (2017) and Haifa, Israel (2019).

In Dublin researchers discussed that it would be important to develop a Network which combined all the learned knowledge from these meetings. And so, the “Fire Effects On Soil Properties International Network, FESP-IN” was born.

FESP-IN is already preparing the next meeting that will be held in Guarapuava, Brazil in July 2021. Considering the pandemic conditions, the meeting will be entirely on-line.
